Preview | FC Halifax Town (a)

4 March 2019

Vanarama National League – MBi Shay Stadium – Tuesday 5th February 2019 – KO: 19:45

The Bees travel to the MBi Shay Stadium tomorrow night hoping to clinch their second win on the bounce when they face Halifax Town.

Last Meeting:

The last time these two sides met was back in 2015, Barnet winning 3-0 on that occasion. Goals from Mauro Vilhete, John Akinde and Curtis Weston sealed the three points at The Hive London.

Manager: Jamie Fullarton

Jamie Fullarton has been in charge of the Shaymen for just over a year now.

The 44-year-old began his managerial career at Notts County in 2016 but left the club after just 12 games in charge.

As a player, Fullarton started out at St Mirren before going on to play for the likes of Crystal Palace, Dundee United, Brentford and Southend before hanging up his boots in 2005 whilst at Woodlands Wellington. He also represented Scotland at Under-21 level and captained the side at the 1996 U21 European Championship.

After retirement, Fullarton was part of the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest, Bolton, Blackburn and was first team coach at Crystal Palace.

One to Watch: Matty Kosylo

Midfielder Matty Kosylo will be hoping to pose a threat tomorrow night, creating goals or scoring one for himself.

He hasn’t found the net since November and will be eager to end that drought when his side host the Bees, adding to his goal tally of four for the season.

Recent League Form:

Halifax, who sit 15th, have won twice in their last five league games.

The Shaymen suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Chesterfield at the start of February before drawing 0-0 with Aldershot in their next fixture. They returned to winning ways three days later when beating Maidstone 1-0 but had to settle for another goalless draw when hosting Havant & Waterlooville in their next game. However, they do go into tomorrow’s game off the back of a 1-0 win away at Eastleigh at the weekend.

As for their home form, Halifax have won five of their 16 home games this season and haven’t tasted victory at the MBi Shay Stadium since November. They are also the second joint-lowest scorers in the league having bagged 28 goals. They have also conceded 32 and suffering defeat tomorrow will mean they will be level on points with the Bees.

Last 5 league games: LDWDW

Defender Ryan Sellers spent a couple of years in the Barnet academy as a youngster but never played in the senior side, leaving in 2014 for Bolton.

Ben Tomlinson joined the Bees from Lincoln City in 2015 and went on to make 12 appearances for the club before leaving in 2017 after a succession of loan spells away from The Hive London.

Manny Duku joined Barnet on loan in October 2018 from Cheltenham Town but returned to his parent club in the New Year ahead of another loan move to Halifax a month later.

Report | FC Halifax Town 3-0 Barnet FC

5 March 2019

Goals from Devante Rodney, James Ferry and former Bee Manny Duku secured a comfortable win for FC Halifax Town over Barnet.

Cousins was the first keeper to be tested in the 17th minute when Quigley got into a shooting position, looked to round the Barnet number one but Cousins stood firm to make a good save.

A good chance for Duckworth followed but his effort from 35-yards out went just over the bar before, at the other end, Alexander's cross towards Coulthirst was turned behind.

Halifax kept piling on the pressure when captain Reynolds did well to head Sellers' free kick away from underneath the crossbar.

The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when Cousins pulled off a great save to deny Kosylo but Rodney fired home the rebound.

Barham had his first chance of the game shortly before half time, but his turn and shot, from Johnson's ball, was off target.

After the break, Robson's header from Elito's corner was forced the home keeper into a rare save.

Soon after, Sam Johnson was tested again when Elliott Johnson's low cross was played in towards Coulthirst but the Halifax man claimed at the second attempt.

However, Halifax continued to create chances and doubled their lead in the 60th minute, Ferry finishing at Cousins' near post with a low, bobbling effort from 12 yards.

Substitute Manny Duku, who was on-loan at The Hive earlier this season, made it three when he finished off a flowing home attack, made by Rodney.

Barnet were given a chance to pull one back when Coulthirst was fouled in the box. The Bees number 10 stepped up but his spot kick was saved by Johnson.

Substitute Akinola would see a powerful shot deflected over and Coulthirst's header in stoppage time was wide.

Barnet - Cousins, Alexander (Tutonda), Johnson, Reynolds, Robson, Coulthirst, H. Taylor, Fonguck (Akinola), Elito, Sweeney, Barham (Tarpey)

Unused - Matrevics, Mason-Clark

Attendance: 1,085 (57 Barnet)
