The Bees head to York Road to take on Maidenhead United in Vanarama National League action. Preview in association with LVBet

Maidenhead United FC vs Barnet FC

Saturday 10th April 2021, 15:00 KO

York Road

Vanarama National League

League Position: 14th (P28 W11 D6 L11)

Last Result: Maidenhead 0-1 Eastleigh (Monday 5th April 2021)

Manager: Alan Devonshire

Club Captain: Alan Massey

The Magpies playoff hopes have been dealt a blow in recent weeks losing their last three games on the bounce and having two players sent off in the process. This is in contrast to the start of the season when they were able to turn around a torrid beginning to the season, going on an unbeaten run of seven games which gave them a real outsider chance at the time of challenging for the top seven. They have of course one or two games in hand over the teams around them so if they are able to go on a run of wins then there is still of course the hope of finishing in those coveted play off positions.

This is the Magpies fourth season in the National League, after they were promoted to the fifth tier of English football for the first time, back in 2017 and with that in mind, will be impressed with how far they have come since then and look almost certain to better their 21st place finish from last season. Despite coming into the match on the back of three successive defeats, Devonshire's side will provide difficult opposition for Simon Bassey and the Bees.

There will be new faces in the dugout for the Bees on Saturday with two former AFC Wimbledon managers joining the club in the past week. Simon Bassey who spent 17 years with the Dons will be taking the role of First Team Coach, while former goalkeeper Dave Anderson will be his assistant, while also working with our goalkeepers. Both appointments signal the start of a longer-term rebuild at the club as the Bees look to push on in the next campaign.

Both Bassey and Anderson will be keen to get to work straight away and have already took charge of training sessions in the build-up to Saturday’s trip to York Road as they look to make up for a disappointing Easter Weekend which saw the Bees concede seven goals in two games, losing both. Despite showing some signs of promising play against Solihull, it was the Moors who took the points last Friday. The Bees will be shaken from Monday's hammering at the hands of Wealdstone and will be looking to at the very least build a foundation to work from against Maidenhead United.

The clash with the Magpies could see the introduction of the two newest recruits at The Hive, as Sam Skeffington and Sam Beard joined on loan from Millwall and Dorking Wanderers respectively.

Simon Bassey previews this afternoon's clash:

Goals from Simeon Akinola, David Tutonda and Cheye Alexander helped the Bees to come from behind to secure an impressive 4-1 win the last time out at York Road.

Maidenhead United will be streaming the game free of charge via their YouTube channel.
