DAVIDS: WE DIDN'T TAKE OUR CHANCES

8 April 2013

Edgar Davids spoke of his disappointment following the Bees' 2-0 defeat to Chesterfield

Edgar Davids admitted that Barnet could have played for two days and not scored following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Chesterfield.

The Bees dominated large parts of the match but were left stunned when Jay O’Shea fired home from 25-yards before Sam Togwell added a second 12 minutes from time.

Speaking post-match Davids conceded that Barnet did not take their chances and were not determined enough in and around the box.

“If you have so many corners and you don’t even convert one you could play for two days and not score.

“We showed we could play but we didn’t take our chances. If you’re not sharp in the box and determined then you will not score.”

However, the head-coach was quick to remind that the Bees were punished by a team pushing for a play-off place.

“In the first-half we dictated the play and didn’t give away to many chances. They had half a chance and they score but that is the way football is. They were very effective.

“We played against a mid table team and I think we outplayed them. We were the better team but we saw why they’re at that level because they took their chances.”

Next up for Barnet is a trip to the south-west to face Torquay United and Davids stated his intention to return with all three points.

“Now we have to start again to prepare ourselves for Saturday’s game against Torquay United. We always go for the win. How we win is not important as long as we get it.”

“Torquay, like us, need to win so it is going to be a massive game for both teams. I would like it to be the crucial game in our survival campaign but we still have another two matches after that.

Davids also revealed that the Bees may field two strikers in what could be a make or break tie at Plainmoor.

“We will see, maybe we will stay the same but maybe we will opt for two strikers. They play very well and the position they’re in doesn't match the way they play football.”
