Mark Byrne is targeting a further three points this weekendMark Byrne and Barnet are fully focused on Saturday’s match against Plymouth Argyle following a 2-0 win over Southend United.
Byrne’s curling cross allowed Jake Hyde to give Barnet the lead in the 33rd minute and despite the nature of the game he was delighted with the result.
Speaking post-match Byrne admitted that it may not have been pretty but it showcased the Bees ability to win any kind of match.
“It was a very scrappy game but we dug in and got the three points which is exactly what we wanted.
“We have played well recently but against Southend we also showed that we can win ugly when we have too.”
The Bees early season form has severely hampered their progress this season but Byrne believes the team have now turned a corner.
“Earlier on in the season we would not have come away from this kind game with a win but now we are grinding out results.
“This has allowed us to progress up the table and the more points we pick up the more teams get dragged into trouble.”
Despite the win Byrne and the boys are now fully focused on Saturday’s match and with no midweek game next week there will be no excuses come 5.00pm.
“We have to take each game as it comes so right now we are focused on what is a massive game on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle.
“Hopefully we can build on a good win and get another three points, with the Fleetwood game being rearranged we have no excuses not to put in 100 per cent.”
Byrne picked up Hyde unmarked at the back post for Barnet’s opener but he insisted his job is made easy by the forward’s excellent movement.
“I know that if I get balls in the box then Hydey will get on the end of them because he is great in that area.
“It is always nice to get an assist but for me it does not matter who scores as long as the team keep winning.”
Despite the opener Hyde almost turned villain at the beginning of the second-half as he headed against his own post and Byrne joked that the forward was ever so slightly relieved.
“He was very relieved about that, I do not know what he did but it ended up hitting the post and thankfully it bounced to safety.
“I do not think they troubled us that much however and thought we defended very well, on the balance of play I think we deserved the win.”
