DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 1-8 QPR

18 February 2013

The Under-21s suffered a heavy defeat at home to QPR

The Development Squad were thrashed 8-1 by Queens Park Rangers at The Hive on Monday afternoon.

Rangers dominated from start to finish in the Barclays Under-21 Professional Development League encounter and led 1-7 at the break.

Mauro Vilhete pulled a goal back with 12 minutes of the first-half remaining but despite having just under an hour of the match to play it was already nothing but a consolation.

Rangers made a fast start to the match and after five minutes they were awarded a penalty when Peter Skapetis went down in the box.

What followed was fairly bizarre as Barnes palmed Frankie Sutherland’s spot-kick to safety before Folkes clearance hit Skapetis and rebounded into the net to make it 0-1 seconds later.

Barnet responded well and after 14 minutes they had a great chance to equalise but after beating the offside trap Vilhette fired wide from eight-yards.

With 18 minutes played Skapetis made it 2-0 when he fired home after Connor Hubble’s shot landed kindly for him to start a nightmare five minutes for the young Bees.

Four minutes later Angelo Balanta made it 3-0 as he stooped in at the back post to head home Mo Sharif’s pinpoint cross.

Balanta got his second within 60 seconds of the restart as he turned in Jake Downs’ cross before Mo Sharif made it 5-0 with a 20-yard strike seven minutes later.

With 33 minutes played Vilhette capatalised on some poor Rangers defending to slam home and make it 5-1 but three minutes later the deficit was five once more as Hubble volleyed into the top corner.

Shariff got his second of the game with one minute of the half remaining when he headed Balanta’s corner past Folkes via the crossbar to make it 7-1 at the break.

Rangers picked up where they left off at the beginning of the second-half as Balanta completed his hat-trick direct from a corner kick after 53 minutes.

They almost got their ninth two minutes later as Hubble sent a free-kick crashing off the post and despite a host of chances for both sides the match finished Barnet 1-8 Queens Park Rangers.

Queens Park Rangers: Lumley, Downs, Monthe (Simmonds 45), Champion, Ehmer, Parmenter, Hubble, Sutherland (Sendles-White 72), Skapetis, Balanta (Francis 52), Shariff.
