HOLMES OUT FOR SEASON

9 February 2013

Ricky Holmes will miss the remainder of the 2012/13 season

Ricky Holmes will miss the remainder of the season following a reoccurrence of a foot injury he suffered two-years ago.

The forward broke his fifth metatarsal and had a screw implanted which was supposed to aid the healing process, but scans have revealed the injury never healed.

Holmes landed awkwardly against Bristol Rovers and the screw subsequently broke and he will undergo surgery on Tuesday to replace it.

Speaking exclusively to barnetfc.com, Holmes was unable to hide his disappointment following the setback.

“I am absolutely gutted because I have been playing well recently and so have the team, to miss the back end of the season is devastating.

Holmes also revealed that he has been playing with the injury since suffering it and that it was simply a case of bad luck that has caused the latest setback.

“It is a reoccurrence of a previous injury; I had a screw put in but it has moved so it needs to be replaced.”

“It is something I have known about in the past but more often than not it is okay but just my luck it has broken and I need to have an operation.”

The 25-year-old does not however believe that results will be affected on the pitch and hopes that the team will continue to pick up results in his absence.

“I have no doubts that the team will carry on performing and keep improving as the season wears on.

“Having me injured does not change a lot because I was out before Christmas and we kept winning games so the team will be fine without me and will climb up the table.”

Despite being absent on the pitch Holmes insists he will still be around to contribute to the teams season off the field in whatever way he can.

“I am quite a big personality in the changing room along with the likes of Graham Stack and I have been in this fight twice and that experience will be second to none, the lads will have my full support.

“I will have the operation next week and I will be back in within a week starting my rehab, hopefully I can recover quickly and you never know I might sneak a game or two in at the end of the season.”
