HYDE: 'WE DEFENDED WELL'

28 February 2013

Jake Hyde hailed the Barnet defence after a 2-0 win over Southend United

A relieved Jake Hyde was delighted to hear the final whistle to signal that Barnet had secured three points over Southend United.

The forward opened the scoring before Dani Lopez added a second to earn a 2-0 win at Underhill on Tuesday night.

Speaking post-match Hyde admitted that the Bees started slowly but deserved the win following an impressive defensive performance.

“We did start slowly but we grew in confidence as the game went on and once we got our foot in the game we never looked back. The score may look like it was comfortable though but it wasn’t, we had to defend well.”

“It is lovely to get that win. You look to win all of your home game and Southend are a good side so we are delighted to win and we are all buzzing about it.”

Hyde continued by continued by hailing the influence of keeper Graham Stack, the back four and the belief within the team.

“We are really solid at the back. Graham Stack is massively influential for us and the back four has been brilliant, it is certainly showing in our results.

“There is a lot of self-belief in the side at the moment and we go into every game thinking that we are going to win it, that is a massive plus for the side.”

Hyde’s 33rd minute header also saw the forward reach double figures for the season, he then almost scoring an own goal, but he admitted the points remain the number one priority.

“It is always nice to get into double figures but the most important thing is that the team are climbing the table and winning games. If I am helping us to do that then that is fantastic.

“The ball got whipped across and I got my head on it, I am not sure where it came off but I would call it preventing a goal rather than almost scoring an own goal.”
