Barnet FC Ladies have applied for a place in the Women's Super League in 2014
Barnet FC Ladies can today announce their application to form part of the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) in 2014.
The radical restructuring of women’s football will see the regionalisation of the FA Women’s Premier League (where Barnet currently play in the National Division) in favour of two divisions of the WSL with the season being played from March to October.
Should the application prove successful Barnet Ladies’ first team squad will become semi-professional, their home fixtures will be played at The Hive, and WSL matches will receive television coverage. The move to summer football will enable supporters to follow the Bees all year round and will see the transformation of Sunday match-days into family events.
Graham Slyper, Barnet FC’s director with responsibility for the Ladies team, confirmed this morning that the Women’s Super League (WSL) application had been lodged with the FA on Monday and talked up the future potential of women’s football at Barnet.
“A successful application will see a transformation of women’s football at Barnet FC including the improved calibre of our players and the facilities available to them at The Hive, the raised TV profile of the female game, and the entire match-day experience. We now look forward to participating in the remainder of the detailed adjudication process.”
Barnet Ladies host Sunderland Ladies at Underhill this Sunday, kick-off 14:00.
