Edgar Davids praised the fans and the team following Saturday's match
Edgar Davids was full of praise for his side and the Barnet faithful following Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Cheltenham Town.
A host of loyal Bees turned out on Saturday morning to clear the playing surface and ensure the match could take place.
The snow continued to fall throughout the match and neither side was able to beat the conditions to earn the three points but Davids was pleased with what he saw.
“Last time we played them they were very good. Both teams tried to play football today on a difficult pitch.
“There was some brilliant passing but at the end of the day it comes down to character. My team today showed big heart.
“We were playing a team that is fourth in the table so it was going to be hard and going to be a fight.
“I think the players did well and in the end we were the better side.”
The head-coach was particularly impressed by the performance of Mark Byrne.
“He was a monster, a beast. I am happy with his form and he was definitely for me the man-of-the-match. He really lifted the spirit of the team.”
More than 30 volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the morning to ensure the fixture took place and Davids thanked them for their fine efforts.
“It is amazing they did that for us. You don’t see that everywhere. You see it is a close-knit family.
“A lot of people came out to watch the game as well and it was a day to stay at home.
“You see people’s appreciation for Barnet go far. If they helped clear the pitch as well I appreciate and thank their efforts.”
