KYLE DE SILVA - THE FIRST INTERVIEW

27 March 2013

Kyle De Silva speaks to barnetfc.com following his loan move from Crystal Palace

Kyle De Silva is relishing the opportunity to play first-team football after joining Barnet on loan from Crystal Palace.

The 19-year-old made his debut against Cheltenham Town on Saturday and despite the torrid conditions he impressed.

Speaking to barnetfc.com De Silva stated his intention to help the Bees in their quest for survival.

“I am very much looking forward to it. It will be great to get some first-team action and I am really looking forward to making an impact at Barnet.

“It has been a frustrating season because I have picked up a few injuries but hopefully I can have a strong end to the season.”

He added: “I am a very attack minded player and I like to get forward and create opportunities for myself and other members of the team.

Crystal Palace are flying high in the Npower Championship and although he is pleased to see them doing so well he revealed his frustration at suffering injuries at crucial times of the season.

“It is great that Crystal Palace are doing so well but it has been difficult for me because I got injured right at the start of the season.

“During that time the manager left for Bolton and a new one came in and it is very hard to break in and make an impression when the team are flying. Hopefully I can do that whilst on loan.”

De Silva is the second Eagles player to join the Bees on loan this season, Ibra Sekajj beinga the other, and he revealed that his team mate had nothing but good things to say about the club.

“Ibra Sekajja obviously spent some time here on loan and I spoke to him before the move and he encouraged me to come here.

“He said they were a great bunch of lads and was full of praise for everything from the players to the facilities.”

The Bees face Dagenham and Redbridge on Friday before travelling to AFC Wimbledon on Monday and De Silva believes that the Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity for the Bees to push on.

“I think I can definitely come in and make an impact. I have looked at the results and the team have picked up some good results lately so hopefully I can help keep that up.

“We have some big games coming up against the teams around us so we need to take advantage of them and push away from the relegation zone.

“I can’t wait to play first-team football and that is exactly what I am here for. I am very grateful I have been given the opportunity to come here.”

Head-coach Edgar Davids joined Crystal Palace when De Silva was at the club but their paths rarely crossed so the midfielder is looking forward to learning from the Dutchman.

“When Edgar joined Crystal Palace I had just started my scholarship so I did not get to play with him because I was still very young.

“What more can I say, he is Edgar Davids, it is very exciting and he has a lot of experience so hopefully I can learn a lot from him during my time here.”
