Luisma signs contract extension

23 August 2014

Spanish midfielder says he is 'very happy' to have agreed a new deal with the Bees in a rare interview.

Barnet FC are delighted to announce that Luisma Villa has signed an extended contact with the club.

The Spanish midfielder, whose previous clubs include Racing Santander and Alavés, made 28 appearances during his first season at The Hive, scoring four goals.

Reacting to the deal, the 25-year old admitted that he was delighted to have agreed an extension, commenting:

“The truth is that I am very happy. I feel very at home here so when I was offered the chance to stay for another year I had no hesitation in signing.

“This is a unique club and I love how things are done here. It is a beautiful thing when you play games or you are around the stadium and people come up and talk to you with your name on their shirt.

“I really enjoyed my first season here, both on and off the pitch, and I am sure that I will continue to do so during the coming year.”

Having spent the first six years of his career in his native Spain, the midfielder admits that coming to England last summer presented a whole new challenge, but that he is looking forward to continuing his learning curve during the coming season:

“I came here knowing that the football would be a lot different to what I was used to. I am not a player that is particularly strong physically, and perhaps I was a little bit lacking in some of those characteristics.

“There are other things that are very different as well, to not always argue with the referee and to get up quickly when they don’t give a foul against you, for example.

“They are small things but they are things that you have to learn, and I do feel that I am becoming more and more accustomed to them. I am really enjoying English football and learning this new style.”

Luisma also says that he is not just settling in well on the pitch, but off it as well, and feels that he is now getting to grips with the English lifestyle:

“I am really enjoying my time here even taking football out of the equation. I love my surroundings and I always try to go and visit various places in order to try and get to know the city a little better which is great.

“I share a house with lots of English people and they help me in trying to learn the language, as well as my teammates during training. I try my best and ask them lots of questions, and they are always happy to help. I am improving very slowly!”

With his future sorted, Luisma is now looking forward to pressing ahead with the new season, and says the he believes that it could be a special one for the Bees:

“I think that we have a very good team here and we have started the season very well with two convincing wins. We lost the one game last Saturday but we have plenty more chances to win matches and get to where we want to be.

“Martin is a great coach and I am going to try my best to be part of his team. I want to use everything that I have learned during the last year to improve even more and be an important part of the team.”
