Angus MacDonald looks ahead to Saturday's match against Gateshead.
The weather is improving at The Hive, with the diabolical swirling wind and rain of the Southport game and the hopeless waterlogged pitch at Luton a distant memory. Spring has finally arrived and I am hopeful I can walk from Canons Park tube across the training pitches without getting absolutely drenched by the rain and battered by the wind! Sadly despite the Spring sunshine at the Woking game it was a disappointing result which brought Barnet's 5 match winning streak to an abrupt end.
I thought Barnet were unlucky against Woking away earlier in the season when we had what looked like a perfectly good Keanu Marsh-Brown effort ruled out for offside.
I felt Barnet could have nicked a win there. On Saturday Barnet's luck was absent again as first a simple defensive lapse and then a penalty gave us an uphill task to turn it around in the second half. When chasing the game Woking went up the other end and hit us on the break to give them an unassailable 3-1 lead.
On Saturday of course Barnet have the chance to put that result behind them and with only 11 games remaining (already?!) they will want to consolidate their position in the play-off places. A win could put Gateshead back in the top five should other results go their way and ex-Bee John Oster will want to make an impression against his former employers.
I am looking forward to the Gateshead game as it gives us a chance to put the Woking result right and because I am sampling the delights of the Amber Suite and the 1888 Club for the first time as a birthday treat! At £24 (I am already a West Stand member) it seemed like a good deal and a chance to see the Bees get back to winning ways in style hopefully!
So if you see me in the Amber Suite or the Hive Bar on Saturday do feel free to buy me a birthday beverage!
Looking forward to the Man of the Match presentation post game too - what price Keanu Marsh-Brown after his England C cameo during the week? KMB is due a goal and I hope to see him presented with the Man of the Match award in the Amber Suite post game after a fine Barnet win.
Come on you Bees!
