Striker delighted to get off the mark for the Bees.Barnet striker Michael Gash admitted that it was a fantastic feeling to get off the mark for the club on Saturday, as his brace helped Barnet to a 3-1 win over Altrincham at Moss Lane.
Reflecting on a good weekend all round, the Bees new signing was pleased to open his account but insisted that helping the side to a vital victory was even better:
“It was fantastic. First and foremost the most important thing was the three points – we knew that it was going to be a difficult game as they had been on a good run over the last month or so.
“Getting the early goal - with John doing what he does best in out-pacing and out-strengthening the centre-half so that all he can really do is bring him down – for them to go down to ten men was a plus for us.
“Even with ten men though, as we saw against Woking here, it can be tough to break them down but thankfully we managed it and on a personal note I was very happy to get those two goals.
“The last two games I have got myself in the starting eleven so hopefully I can keep it going and keep scoring more goals to help the team win and get back to the top of the league.”
The striker admitted that there had been a bit of friendly debate between him and Luisma Villa as to who scored the second, but that he himself was in no doubt as to who gets to claim it:
“It is definitely my goal – I definitely got a little touch on it! It was the slightest of touches but I think that if you ask their keeper the ball definitely changes direction a little bit.
“Whether the defender got a touch as well I don’t know but all I could say to Luisma was that it was a fantastic ball into the box!
“As soon as I glanced back to see the ball going in the net, it was a great feeling – especially to put us 2-0 up. Like every striker should do I like to celebrate my goals and with it being the first one I was very happy with it.”
Gash went on to score a second during the second half after Altrincham had pulled a goal back shortly after half-time and was once again full of praise for the assist, which this time came from Elliott Johnson:
“They are the balls that you want into the box, thinking that you can out-jump and out-strengthen the centre-half. Elliott’s ball was fantastic, he just hung it up into the box, and I think it was Sav in there going up there as well but thankfully I got there before him and put it in the net.
“Looking at it now the keeper might be a little disappointed as it wasn’t right in the corner but maybe I just wrong-footed him and it was good to get a second!”
Gash finished by admitting that spirits in the camp were high following last weekend’s return to winning ways, and that the players were now full of confidence ahead of this weekend’s game against Forest Green Rovers at The Hive:
“It has been a tough few weeks so to get back to winning ways was fantastic. I don’t think that the boys ever lacked confidence, we just weren’t performing to the high levels that we know we can.
“Saturday will definitely help us with that and we’ll go into the game against Forest Green full of confidence, believing in each other and believing that we can get the win.”
