Martin Allen: "I thought we were very disappointing"

2 January 2016

The Bees manager reflects on Barnet's trip to Sixfields.

Barnet manager Martin Allen has revealed that he was disappointed with his team's performance against Northampton Town.

Speaking after the match, Martin said:

“I don’t think it was a very good performance.

“I thought they were far better than us from the first minute to the last minute, in possession and out of possession, right through the whole team.

“They dominated the game.

“I said before the game that they had some good players.

“Their players were right on it, and far too many of our players were nowhere near it.

“So that’s what you get – a 3-0 thumping.

“I’m saddened for our supporters – a lot of them made the trip up here, and I thought we were very disappointing today.

“Our team has been playing well, and we’ve been putting in some really good performances.

“It’s the third game in a week, so I suppose we could all look for some excuses and say that they’re tired.

“But it was also Northampton’s third game of the week.

“Yes they’ve got some outstanding players.

“But what I’ve always said is that everyone should stand firm, have a go and compete first and foremost.

“If we don’t win, as long as we have a go then I’m fine with that.

“But I’m not happy today because we didn’t do that.

“We didn’t do the basic things that got us into a good position in the table, and also won us a championship.

“That’s what I’m going to have to look at this week, and then get us ready for the next home game.”
