Academy manager Henry Newman previews Barnet's FA Youth Cup tie with Luton Town...Academy manager Henry Newman says Tuesday's FA Youth Cup match at The Hive is a good opportunity for Barnet's Under-18s to prove they are ready to step up.
The young Bees host Luton Town on the first-team pitch at The Hive. There will be paying spectators and much more which will be new to the players on both sides.
And Newman says it is a platform for Bees to show they can make the step up into Rossi Eames' Under-21 side in the future and, perhaps, turn out for Martin Allen's first team.
"It's a good opportunity for those boys to show they're ready to make that step up over the next year or couple of years," Newman said.
"They will be putting on a performance on the first-team pitch they'll hopefully put on in a first-team shirt in years to come.
"Naturally all the players are looking forward to it. My job as a coach – along with Dean selvey – is to play those expectations down a little bit and make sure they are taking it one step at a time.
"There will be no difference in our preparations and the fact it is on the first-team pitch doesn't make a difference - we will be looking to right the wrongs of the 4-3 defeat to Luton in the league.
"We've played some games in non-league stadiums before this to give them some experience. But that doesn't replicate the feeling they will get on Tuesday night."
