Henry Newman looking to repeat Plymouth performance

13 January 2017

Rossi Eames and Henry Newman preview Barnet's EFL League Two clash against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday...

Henry Newman says Barnet will look to replicate their performance against Plymouth Argyle when EFL League Two leaders Doncaster Rovers come to The Hive London on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Mauro Vilhete’s deft header saw the Bees topple the then league leaders in their last home fixture and a repeat against Rovers – the current incumbents at the summit – would do nicely for Newman and Rossi Eames.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game, Newman said: “We’ve certainly got the results our performances merit and that’s a message we’ve taken into this week.

“Looking back on our most recent performance against a top team in the 1-0 victory against Plymouth, we are looking to replicate our performance in and out of possession.

“In relation to getting up for big games the players have shown they can get up for any game – whether it be a big game at home or a fight against a team lower in the division away from home. I’m sure they’ll do the same this Saturday.”

Barnet followed the win over Argyle up with a 3-1 win at Leyton Orient last Saturday, a victory which lifted the Bees into the play-off places.

A sequence of 12 points from six games means the mood at The Hive is positive and, for that reason, Barnet are on a high.

“Training has been excellent this week and the boys are in a very good place,” Eames said. “The intensity has been excellent, even with the adverse weather today, they’ve been really switched on.

“We want to go into the game with a positive mind frame. But we also have to be wary of the threat Doncaster pose. They’re an excellent team and they’re top of the league for a reason; they move the ball very well and they’re coached very well and we need to be on it.”

He added: “They move the ball very well and quickly and use a lot of width. But we’ve also got some very talented players here.

“We’ve worked very hard on the training ground. The players know their jobs and it’s now down to them to do the business.”
