Simeon Akinola speaks to barnetfc.com after the Bees' 0-0 draw with Newport County...
Simeon Akinola admitted Barnet were frustrated to take a solitary point from Newport County in drawing 0-0 and felt an early goal would have paved the way for a handsome win.
In the event it was not to be as a combination of Barnet’s profligacy in front of goal and a fine display from Exiles keeper Joe Day denied the Bees.
Akinola was among those to go close but it was not the be for Rossi Eames and Henry Newman’s side at The Hive.
“We’re a little bit disappointed because we know we had more than enough chances to win the game,” Akinola said. “So even though we got a point it’s disappointing because we should have got all three.
“I spoke to John after the whistle and he felt like it was one of those games where if one of the chances goes in early it’s a rout.”
“But we couldn’t finish our chances off today. We will take the positives of a clean sheet and a point and move onto next week.”
It was evident that Newport came with the intention of returning to South Wales with a point and that was something which was not lost on the players, either, as they toiled to break down a resolute Exiles side.
“You could see them timewasting with ten or 15 minutes left as they were happy to settle for a point,” said Akinola.
“But anyone who watched the game will have realised that it was all us and we should have won the game.”
