Bees midfielder Weston excited by pre-season schedule

Curtis keen to face Millwall again

27 June 2017

Curtis Weston is relishing Barnet’s impressive schedule of pre-season friendlies next month – especially the reunion with his former club Millwall.

The Lions will be the last in a trio of high-profile visitors to The Hive for warm-up games in July, following hot on the heels of Premier League side Swansea City and a West Ham United team.

Weston, who began his career with Millwall, said: “When the schedule was released I was looking through it and I was pretty excited. To play some big clubs is going to be nice and the pitch is looking good as well.

“It’s always good to play against Millwall – I’ve done that quite a few times since I left, quite a few years ago. So I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be another tough season, but we’re going to work hard, progress on what we did last year and hopefully do better than that.”

Weston and his Bees team-mates returned to The Hive earlier this week and the midfielder admits the intensity of pre-season training has spiralled since he started out as a young pro.

He added: “Every year there’s more stuff being put in place in terms of sports science and different staff coming in with their own philosophies.

“I try to stay fit in the off-season as well and I think you’re expected to come back in already fit nowadays.

“A few years ago you could come back with all your extra weight and now was the time to get it off! But now you’re expected to stay in shape over the summer.”
