As Kevin Nugent spoke to the press post match it was clear to see his annoyance following his sides loss at the Wham Stadium.
“Same frustration as the other games. It was a really really tight game. There was nothing in it.”
Kevin had used his half time team talk to remind his players to keep things tight after the break following 45 minutes of few chances.
“Last words at half time, don’t give away silly free kicks.”
And when the deadlock was subsequently broken on 55 minutes by an Accrington set piece, Kevin wasn’t surprised to have seen the free kick given.
“You know at Accrington away if a player goes down, if it’s a border line free kick, it’s going to go against you.”
His side continued to press Accrington from there and had several chances cleared off the line.
“We had three goal line clearances. How we haven’t got at least something out of the game I will never know.”
The pitch wasn’t in ideal condition to play on, but Kevin was quick to dismiss it as a factor in his sides loss. Instead he focused on his own tactical approach to the game.
“I thought we nullified them. We started the game very well. I think it turned in their favour after 20 minutes. But we stayed in there and it was a free kick set piece that changed the game.”
Kevin addressed the change of keeper which saw Benji Buchel come in on emergency loan from Oxford.
“Benji has been on our radar. He did very well today. We’ve got an experienced keeper. We’re pleased to have him.”
Despite not winning in 4 games, Kevin was keen to stay positive, with his side edging closer to their first win.
“You’ve got to keep positive. You have to keep believing in what you’re doing. There’s no way we should have come away with nothing today.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s home clash with Crawley Town, Kevin hinted that he may have to make changes.
“There’s team selection issues now. The lads on the sidelines will be knocking on the door saying get us in that side.”
