Bees Keeper Jamie Stephens was full of praise for senior pros Jamal Campbell-Ryce and John Akinde following Saturday’s 3-1 comeback against Cheltenham.
“We’ve got people like Jamal and John who get everyone to play right and do the right things.”
“I’m 23 and I look up to them. They’re inspirational in how they play.
They’ve got good experienced heads in the dressing room. They pull you through games like today, making the right decisions at the right times.”
Jamal’s Bees contract is up at the end of the season and Stephens would be astonished if his recent performances don’t earn him a new one.
“Jamal’s 33 but he does everything right and trains incredibly. A great professional. Credit to him.”
Stephens went on to praise Kevin Nugent for the work he’s done since arriving at The Hive.
“He’s an ex-player himself. He understands how the game works. He puts on great training sessions and looks after the lads.
I’m really happy for him today and pleased we got the win for him.”
Looking ahead to Stevenage at the weekend, Stephens is confident the team can carry their winning momentum into Saturday.
“We could have scored more today. We had nothing to lose. We’re gonna take that, have a good week of training, and go play our game to get a win.”
