Report | Eastleigh 0-3 Barnet FC

2 April 2019

Barnet increase their unbeaten run to seven games with an impressive 3-0 victory, away, against 10-man Eastleigh.

The Bees arrived at The Silverlake Stadium with two changes, to their starting line-up against league leaders Leyton Orient. Elito is preferred to Boucard in midfield and Robson is brought in to help bolster the Bees defence against promotion chasers Eastleigh.

In the first few minutes Cousins was by far the busier keeper out of the two, keeping out a venomous shot from Eastleigh’s no.23 Sam Mathews, palming it away for a corner.

In the 11th minute The Bees found the back of the Eastleigh net, however Elito’s header was ruled offside by the linesman on the far side.

Barnet found the back of Eastleigh net again in the 24th minute, but this time it did count! Shaq Coulthirst getting the vital touch on Reynold’s shot after a frenzied Barnet corner was failed to clear by the home team.

A moment of madness in the 41st minute as Eastleigh’s captain, Danny Hollands, saw a straight red after an extremely reckless tackle on Robson. In the following minutes a member of the Eastleigh coaching staff also saw red too and was sent to the stands.

Darren Curries’ team finished the first half the stronger team after weathering the initial Eastleigh attacks in the first 10 minutes. The home side made a change at half time with Hobson coming off to be replaced by McCallum.

Within the first five minutes of the second half, Barnet found their second of the game! Coulthirst’s shot pounced on by Mason-Clark, from close range, in similar fashion to The Bees’ first. Barnet really made that extra man count and fully deserved of that goal.

Not ten minutes later and Mason-Clark nearly got his second and Barnet’s third of the game. Johnson delivered a perfect ball to the back post, Mason-Clark headed into the ground and bounced narrowly wide of the Eastleigh goal.

Just after hour mark Mason-Clark was brought down in the box and a penalty was given. Shaq Coulthirst stepped up and calmly placed to the right of Southward who dived the wrong way.

Eastleigh almost clawed a goal back in the 75th minute when a break-down in communication at the back. Robson produced a terrific last-ditch challenge at the back to prevent a Eastleigh comeback.

The Bees almost made it four. Tarpey picked the ball up in midfield and released Elito on the right-hand side. Elito cut back onto his left and send his shot whistling just wide in the Eastleigh net.

Barnet ended the game strongly and after four additional minutes the referee blew his whistle. Barnet now record their sixth clean sheet in a row and seventh game unbeaten. A strong and well deserved three points for The Bees.

Barnet travel to Maidenhead on Saturday hoping to keep this very good run going.
