Jack Taylor: “I thought I did my job well”

18 August 2019

Midfielder Jack Taylor spoke after scoring on his 100th appearance in a Barnet shirt during our 2-2 draw with Chesterfield yesterday.

The 21-year-old netted a wondergoal to equalise proceedings on five minutes before Simeon Akinola bagged his fourth of the season from the spot in the second half to make it 2-2.

It was the perfect way to mark 100 games, but Taylor admitted he had no idea about his achievement until the warm-up.

“I didn’t have a clue about it until the team sheet was read out. Obviously at such a young age, I’ve hit a good landmark.

“I see myself as one of the experienced ones now because you’ve got boys in there that are probably older than me but haven’t made as many appearances, so I do take control.”

Taylor was also pleased to get off the mark for the season on his 100th game but felt that failing to clinch the win did overshadow the strike.

“That (goal) topped it (100 appearances) off but it’s a shame we couldn’t walk away with the three points.

“I wouldn’t say we deserved the three points. I don’t think we defended great but obviously we’ve got players playing a bit out of position due to injuries but we’re not going to use that as an excuse.

“I think we needed to create more. We created enough to score two but I think we could have created more.”

The midfielder then talked us through that stunning strike before going on to reflect on his own performance.

“I thought we worked well down the left-hand side and then I shouted at Medy (Elito) to cut it back, thank god he did, then I cut in and found the top corner.

“I thought I did well. The gaffer dropped me back in the second half to bring two on up top and I think I adapted to that well. I thought I did my job well.”
