Match Pack: Harrogate Town 2-1 Barnet

30 October 2019

The Bees fell to defeat at the CMG Stadium as they were punished by two first half goals from the hosts. Despite David Tutonda halving the deficit for the Bees they couldn't find what would have been a deserved equaliser in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Simeon Akinola created the first opening of the game as he saw a snapshot go just wide of the far post.

But it was the Bees who fell behind as Muldoon fired home at the second attempt after the ball fell to him from a corner kick.

After the goal Mauro Vilhete had a golden chance to bring the Bees level as he twisted and turned in the area, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Belshaw in the Town goal.

Then almost immediately it was two goals for the hosts as the ball went through to George Smith who fired past Loach. Once again a two goal deficit was cruel on Darren Currie's side.

The deficit was almost halved as Cheye Alexander played a great ball into the area but his cross just evaded Akinola in the centre.

But nine minutes before the break we did get a well deserved goal as the ball fell for David Tutonda who poked home to bring us back into the game.

This saw Barnet get their tails up and they dominated the latter stages of the first half as they took the game to Town.

Into the second half and Vilhete's dangerous cross was headed over by Dan Sweeney as the Bees looked to start the second half as they finished the first.

The Bees continued to press on the Town team but were limited to a handful of openings that were hacked clear by the Harrogate backline.

The game sparked into life after what looked like a nasty challenge from John Stead on Sweeney which resulted in a straight red card for the veteran striker.

Johnson then put in a superb cross that Vilhete missed out on by inches, any contact and surely the Bees would have been level.

The Bees continued to dominate going into six minutes of added time and could have taken a point right at the end but were denied by a superb double save as Belshaw saved from Vilhete then made a point-blank stop from Josh Walker which turned out to be the final change.
