The Bees are back in Vanarama National League action as they host Aldershot Town at The Hive London. Preview in association with LVBet.
Barnet FC vs Aldershot Town
Saturday 17th April, 12:30
Vanarama National League
League Position: 12th (P32, W13, D5, L14)
Last Result: Weymouth 0-3 Aldershot Town (Tuesday 13th April)
Manager: Danny Searle
Top Scorer: Josh Rees (12 goals)
Danny Searle's side still have outside shot at making the Vanarama National League play-offs, their 3-0 win at strugglers Weymouth on Tuesday night, put them right back in contention. However, with the Shots six points behind 7th place it really is do or die for the Shots, who will know they need to secure three points on Saturday lunchtime. The Shots are on a two game-winning run and haven't conceded a goal in either, as they took the points home from both Dagenham and Redbridge and Weymouth. Searle's side has actually been far stronger on the road since the turn of the year and had it not been for some relatively sloppy home form, then they'd surely be on the fringes of those promotion play-off spaces.
The last time we met with the Shots, the Bees would have been kicking themselves as they let a one-goal lead slip and eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat at The EBB, with former Bee Mo Bettamer scoring the crucial winning goal. The Shots have remained inconsistent since that dramatic victory but now sit on a three-game unbeaten away run, knowing that if they can hit a late purple patch they may just have something to say come the end of May. Away from league action, Searle's side were dumped out the Trophy on penalties by now finalists Hereford United at the Quarter-Final stage. The Bees will hope that they can be the side that ends the Shots decent patch of form, but will need to wary of a side that will turn up full of confidence.
Simon Bassey was pleased with his sides character and application in last weekend's battling draw away to Maidenhead United. The Bees had to defend resolutely at times against a physical Magpies outfit but could have snatched the three points at the death, as JJ Hooper saw his effort brilliantly saved by the host's 'keeper. What the Bees need to do now, is take the positives from that performance and bring them to the forefront in the clash with the Shots. One of the Bees frailties is that they have rarely ever backed up a strong performance with a follow up in the proceeding fixture. Simon Bassey will be expecting the effort shown last week as the minimum requirement at The Hive London when Searle's side turn up tomorrow.
In terms of Team News, the Bees will be hopeful that Candian loanee Michael Petrasso can return to action after a short spell on the sidelines through injury. Meanwhile, Ben Richards-Everton is available again after suspension, whilst Courtney Baker-Richardson serves the second game of his own three-match ban following his dismissal against Wealdstone.
