Match Pack: Aldershot Town 2-1 Barnet FC

2 February 2021

Despite taking the lead and an improved performance, the Bees fell to defeat at the hands of Aldershot Town.

In a tight opening first 10 minutes, it was the hosts who had the best chance, as Ricky Miller curled a free-kick well over from 25 yards.

Meanwhile, up the other end, Courtney Baker-Richardson curled an effort from range well wide of Mitch Walker's goal.

It was a cagey opening 20 minutes at the EBB but in truth, the Bees would have been pleased with their solid start to the evening.

The lively Myles Judd was next cause the host's problems, as his teasing cross was just flicked away from the on-rushing Anthony Wordsworth who was charging in towards the back post.

Just after the midway point of the half, the hosts were next to threaten, as Miller curled a shot wide of the post after jinking past two Bees defenders.

As half time approached it was the Shots who had the final opportunity as Harrison Panatiotou dragged an effort into the arms of Scott Loach, in what was the only meaningful effort of the half.

The Bees made the perfect start to the second half as they took the lead on 53 minutes. Wordsworth played a quite frankly magical cross into the box, leaving Michael Petrasso to head the ball home from six yards out.

It should have been two just moments later, as Petrasso burst clear after good work from Baker-Richardson, but his low effort was brilliantly saved by Walker.

The Bees were punished on the hour mark after a recycled corner found it's way to Sendles-White who turned home from close range.

It was nearly a quickfire double for the hosts, as one long ball went through to Nouble who lobbed Loach but his effort struck the crossbar and bounced clear.

It was the hosts who ultimately took the lead with twenty minutes from time as substitute and former Bee Mo Bettamer drove a low free-kick into the bottom corner.

The Bees looked for a leveller as Mason-Clark cut inside and shot, but his effort struck JJ Hooper on its way over the crossbar.

In the absence of Tim Flowers, the Bees huffed and puffed but ultimately couldn't find a crucial equaliser to take anything from the game.

Barnet: Loach, Binnom-Williams, Daly, Richards-Everton, Judd, Dunne, Taylor (McBurnie 83'), Wordsworth, Petrasso (Mason-Clark 65'), Baker-Richardson, Hooper.
