Match Preview: Aldershot Town (A)

The Bees make the short trip to the EBB Stadium

2 February 2021

The Bees will look to end their losing run against an Aldershot Town side who have failed to win in their last two National League matches. Preview in association with LVBet.

Aldershot Town vs Barnet FC

Tuesday 2nd February 2021, 19:00 KO

EBB Stadium

Vanarama National League

League Position: 15th (P19, W7, D4, L3)

Last Result: Bromley FC 2-0 Aldershot Town (Saturday 30th January)

Manager: Danny Searle

Top Scorer: Mo Bettamer (Five League Goals)

Danny Searle's side have been inconsistent to date and are one of the teams who have played more games than the majority of other sides in the division. Tomorrow will be their 20th game of the season and they find themselves firmly cemented in mid-table, with two wins in their last five matches. One of those matches was a seven-goal thriller as they came out on top as 4-3 winners against Wealdstone. Their last match at the EBB Stadium was one to forget however, as they fell to defeat to Weymouth, as the visitors ran out 2-0 winners. The Bees will be hoping they can try to take advantage of a perhaps shaken Shots side and try to get the crucial result that ends their rut of form.

The Shots have recently bolstered their attacking options with the signing of striker Ricky Miller. The former Peterborough United, Port Vale and Dover Athletic man, is looking to reignite his career and already has one goal to his name during his short spell with the Shots so far. That on top of former Barnet man Mo Bettamer, who already has five goals to his name this season, will certainly keep the Bees backline busy at The EBB. You never know what you are going to get from Danny Searle's side, they have had some high scoring games in both favours this term, meaning if the Bees can get off to the right start, it could be the game to kick start the Tim Flowers era.

There were certainly some positives to take from the Bees performance on Saturday afternoon, despite the 2-0 defeat to runaway league leaders Torquay United. Tim Flowers side had moments in the match but failed to take their opportunity of the limited openings in the game. They did however defend resolutely throughout the match and are starting to look more solid as a unit, that should hopefully give them a foundation to try and turn the ship around, starting with Tuesday night's trip to Aldershot Town. They will want to create more chances in matches, the Bees currently find themselves as the second-lowest scorers in the division and have to remedy that immediately to have any chance of turning this run of form around.

Courtney Baker-Richardson looked a lively presence on his debut on Saturday afternoon and will be hoping to gain more minutes in the tank at the EBB tomorrow evening. With Anthony Wordsworth also back in action, Flowers' side seemed to have more of a presence, but you feel a result is what ultimately will support the confidence of the currently fragile Bees. With Aldershot seeming to be either 'hit or miss', the Bees will be hoping to implement a foothold in the game and try to build from there.

The Bees last travelled to the EBB in December 2019, where both sides played out a goalless draw.

What's been said:

Danny Searle - Aldershot Town Manager:

"We go up against a Barnet side who are desperate for a win. I think Tim has had added strength to his squad and you know at some point they are going to get one and we need to make sure that's not tomorrow. The pitch isn't in very good shape, it's not going to be a pretty game and we need to make sure we're up for it."

Tim Flowers - Barnet FC Manager:

"There is always hope, this division is tight, usually anyone can beat anyone. If you rock up and you're well organised and you defend you're 18-yard box and set plays well. We have to improve our set play delivery, we need someone to stick it in the right area and our runs that we're making will be effective. You won't catch me or anyone else giving up the ghost whilst I'm at this football club. We have got a fantastic medical department, the players are given bundles of information, so we'll recover properly and we go down to Aldershot to try and build on the positives from Torquay."
