Match Preview: Barnet FC vs FC Halifax Town

16 February 2021

The Bees return to action for the first time in two weeks as they welcome FC Halifax Town to The Hive London in Vanarama National League action. Preview in association with LVBet.

FIXTURE DETAILS:

Barnet FC vs FC Halifax Town

Tuesday 16th February, 7pm

The Hive London

Vanarama National League

THE SHAYMEN

League Position: 13th (P20, W7, D6, L7)

Last Result: FC Halifax Town 2-3 Maidenhead United (Saturday 30th January)

Manager: Pete Wild

Captain: Nathan Clarke

The Shaymen are one of several teams in the playoff hunt and they sit just five points off seventh place Wrexham AFC. It was a strong season for Wild's side last season, as they made the National League play-offs before sadly losing out to Boreham Wood in the play-off eliminator back in July. They'll be hoping to go one better this time around and have so far made a solid start to the campaign, after some shaky form back in the early part of November.

In recent weeks, the Shaymen have won one of their last three matches, with that coming on their last trip to London as they secured all three points with a win over 10 man Bromley. Our visitors will be hoping to bounce back from their last match, where they fell on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller as Maidenhead United edged them 3-2 in an entertaining match at The Shay. Wild's side has struggled on the road in recent weeks, winning just one of their last five matches away from home. The Shaymen will know that they have to take three points to keep themselves right amongst the play-off picture.

THE BEES:

It's the same situation for Tim Flowers side going into yet another crucial home match, they have to start picking up points to push on up The National League table. They will feel hard done by that they didn't take something from their last fixture away to Aldershot Town after they took the lead through Michael Petrasso before conceding two quickfire points and chucking away the points. Tim Flowers will feel positive with the recent improvement in performances but he'll be expecting his side to start turning those solid showings into points before the gap becomes any bigger to those outside of the relegation zone.

The games are coming thick and fast for the Bees, with a number of weekends and midweek fixtures in a row, up against some crucial opponents. A win under The Hive London floodlights is vital in order to get points on the board to boost confidence in the team and build on the improving performances seen in the defeats to Aldershot and Torquay.

Matt Preston is nearing a return to action after being involved with the warm-up sessions, but will not be available for selection for the next run of matches. Josh Walker is also back from St George's Park but hasn't completely recovered from the injury sustained against Boreham Wood.
