John Akinde is one of the most exciting talents that League Two has to offer. Signing for Barnet in 2014 from Alfreton Town, he’s gone on to score 81 goals in 145 games for the club in all competitions, making him a fan favourite in the process.
Over the past three seasons, he’s made the step up from the conference to the Football League seem effortless, maintaining a goalscoring record Arthur Morris would be proud of. In the promotion season from the Conference, he won the Golden Boot, scoring 31 goals in 45 games. His debut season in League Two was just as impressive, racking up 22 goals in 43 games. However, last season was his crowning moment, winning the Golden Boot for League Two after a joint 26 goals in 46 games.
Akinde is a natural born goalscorer and if he can keep up his impressive goalscoring record this coming season, there’s no reason why he won’t easily be a part of the Barnet 100 club this time next year. Already Barnet’s all-time leading Football League goalscorer, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Akinde is one of the best players to pull on a Barnet shirt.
