When John Still returned to the club in the summer of 2018, he named goalkeeper Mark Cousins as his first signing, penning a two-year deal with the Bees.

The shot-stopper followed in the manager’s footsteps after arriving from Dagenham and Redbridge where he spent four years at. The 31-year-old also made the move to North London off the back of an impressive campaign, keeping 11 clean sheets in 46 league matches and claiming Dagenham’s Player of the Season award.

Cousins began his career at Fulham as a schoolboy before making the switch to Colchester where a scholarship soon turned into a senior team role. A loan spell at Whitton Town came before his EFL debut for the U’s, coming on as a substitute against Barnsley in August 2007.

The Chelmsford-born ‘keeper was then sent out on loan to Staines Town, Enfield Town and Yeading before taking the number one role at Colchester in 2012. He went on to make 58 league appearances before signing for Dagenham in 2014.

Cousins has over 100 appearances for the Daggers under his belt and also played a vital role in their play-off campaign of 2017.

Still was the man who watched over the goalkeeper’s rise at Victoria Road and will be hoping his form replicates when he stands between the sticks at the Hive next season.
