Date of birth
Midfielder Medy Elito joined the Bees in July 2018 after a successful trial period with the club, penning a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old, born in DR Congo, has spent the most part of his football career here in England. At a young age, he made the move to Colchester United, spending his teenage years progressing through their academy. In May 2007, he was handed his first professional contract with the U’s and went on to make 24 appearances for the club.
During the back end of his time as a Colchester player, he was sent out on loan to Cheltenham Town and Dagenham before signing a permanent deal with the latter. Elito featured 136 times for the Daggers, scoring 20 goals across three seasons. At the end of the 2013-14 season, he was released from the club.
Elito then swapped England for the Netherlands, joining VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie, making over 30 appearances in his first and only campaign with the Dutch outfit.
The Zaire-born midfielder then returned to England during the summer of 2015, signing for Newport County. He played 43 matches for the Exiles before joining Cambridge United ahead of the following campaign. During his two season spent at the Abbey Stadium, he bagged 11 goals in 66 appearances.
Following his release from the club at the end of the 2017-18 season, Elito spent a short spell on trial with the Bees before he was handed a contract by his former Daggers manager John Still.
The midfielder will be hoping to hit the ground running at the Hive and make himself a stand-out addition to a side chasing promotion back to the Football League.
Elito has also represented England at U17, U18 and U19 level from 2006 to 2008.
