Akinde – “I was never given the opportunity to showcase what I can do”

Speaking exclusively to Barnet’s official YouTube channel, John made it clear that the teams focus remains firmly on the playoffs.
“We wanna get promotion. Our performances have been good so I think as long as we keep performing well we can get some points and get that promotion we all want.”
“We’re playing well. We wanna make sure we do well in these last games and show what we’re capable of.”
Talking about team moral, John assured fans that the dressing room has never been better in the face of a few frustrating results.
“It’s good. We’ve been playing well. We just need to reflect that in our results. Moral is good the moment.”
And John knows that it’s his goals that will help those results change.
“Plain and simple, score more goals. Keep getting in the right positions to score and take the chances.”
Looking ahead to this weekends opponents, Akinde spent 18 months at Crawley but felt he never had the opportunity to make his mark.
“I signed for Crawley when I left Bristol. But I was never given the opportunity to showcase what I can do. I only started 6 games in the 18 months that I was there.”
“The fans were always good to me. I didn’t really score while I was there. I kept coming on for 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there.”
John is now enjoying life at Barnet having been given the chance to play regularly, find his form and score goals.
“If you’re any player you need game time. I’m one of those players who needs regular time to showcase what he can do.”
Barnet has become home for John and he feels a deep connection to the fans as he continues to do what he can to help secure a playoff place.
“Long term we want to get promoted. The fans have always been good to me. I hear them singing my name which is always nice to hear.”
