Barnet 0-4 FC Halifax Town

Barnet’s play-off aspirations were left in tatters as FC Halifax Town secured a 4-0 win at The Hive.
The opening five minutes saw Barnet lay siege to the away defence but a dominant and ruthless display followed from the away who entered the break with a 3-0 lead courtesy of a Scott Spencer double and a Lee Gregory header.
The second-half continued in identical fashion with Lois Maynard lashing home a fourth with 52 minutes played to end the scoring and quite possibly Barnet’s Skrill Premier season.
Despite starting well with Mark Byrne and Jake Hyde forcing good saves from Matty Glennon in the opening five minutes the Bees again conceded early.
With just six minutes on the clock Halifax took the lead through Spencer who converted from close range after Lee Gregory was played through on goal from a quick free-kick.
Southport threatened to end Tuesday’s match during the opening ten minutes and the Shaymen almost did just that when Graham Stack denied Marc Roberts from close range.
With 23 minutes played the Bees gave themselves a mountain to climb as the Skrill Premier’s top scorer Lee Gregory headed Halifax into a 2-0 lead.
Allen’s side responded well and a driving run from Jon Nurse was almost rewarded but after causing havoc in the box his low cross was eventually scrambled clear by the away side.
With 33 minutes played it was game over as a wonderful free flowing move involving Scott McManus and Gregory was finished by Spencer who notched his second goal of the match.
Halifax continued to dominate in the second-half and they added a fourth six minutes after the break when a corner kick dropped to Maynard and he smashed the ball into the net.
Gregory almost added a second soon after and a defensive mix-up meant Stack had to claw the ball behind before Richards saw two headers saved as the onslaught continued.
Next up for the Bees is a trip to Nuneaton Town on Saturday before a return to The Hive on Easter Monday to face Braintree Town at 5.15pm.
