Barnet came from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw at The Hive against league leaders Cambridge United.

The Bees conceded twice in two minutes with Kwesi Appiah scoring both goals to capitalise on the sloppy Barnet defence.

Luisma Villa started the comeback with a superb strike and Curtis Weston equalised on the stroke of half-time. George Sykes scored in the final minute of the match but the goal was controversially disallowed. 

Barnet made a bright start to the match but it was the visitors who went close first when Liam Hughes hooked the ball wide of the post after the Bees failed to clear.

Davids’ side continued to dominate possession but they lacked any kind of penetration until Crawford battled his way through before being denied by Chris Maxwell on 21 minutes.

The pressure continued to build with Keiron Cadogan shooting wide before Crawford burst into the box and played a neat one-two with Davids only to be challenged just as he pulled the trigger.

With 28 minutes played Cambridge United took the lead when Davids was robbed in midfield and Appiah was played in to cooly slot past Stack.

One minute later the Bees conceded another sloppy goal when Appiah stole through and converted under Stack to make it 2-0.

The Bees were down, they needed inspiration and they looked ineffective moving forward, but with 36 minutes played Villa picked up the ball 25-yards from goal and curled the ball past Maxwell to make it 1-2.

This sparked the Bees back into life and with seconds remaining in the first-half they drew level when Crawford held up the ball and passed to Weston who smashed the ball into the net past the motionless Maxwell.

Cambridge almost took the lead early in the second-half but Anthony Acheampong was alert to clear with Appiah lurking behind for what would have been a two-yard tap in.

Seconds later the Bees were denied as they raced up the pitch where Villa was denied from range by Maxwell.

Davids was next to try his luck but Maxwell came to the rescue once more to deny the Dutchman from 35-yards.

With time running out the match looked set to end level but in the final minute Cambridge cleared the ball off the line and into the smoke descending on the pitch from a smoke bomb set off by the home fans.

The ball disappeared but soon bounced off the crossbar and at the feet of Sykes who tapped the ball into the net only to see the linesman’s raised flag on the far side. 

No player had a clue whether the ball had gone out of play, so the linesman had no chance, but if ever there was an advert on why bringing flares into stadiums is bad, you saw it today.
