After a hat-trick of draws in early October, two wins towards the end of the month have propelled the Bees back up the table within touching distance of the play off places, and also into the First Round Proper of the FA Cup.
First there was a gritty away win in Hereford. Ahmed Abdulla, not previously known for his aerial ability, headed home for the second time this campaign, with the ever impressive Marsh-Brown providing the assist. In truth Barnet looked comfortable throughout and rarely looked like being denied an away victory for the first time since collecting 3 points at Braintree in August.
Following on from Hereford, a side with a famous FA Cup pedigree, the Bees went back to The Hive to play the rather less celebrated Concord Rangers. ITV showed extended highlights of the game before the draw for the First Round, perhaps hoping for an upset.
There was nothing of the sort as Barnet controlled the game from start to finish. It was great to see Dani Lopez back in amongst the goals. Lopez scored two and created the other for Keanu Marsh-Brown in a 3-0 victory, exactly the sort of performance that Barnet fans got used to when Dani was wearing the black and amber in League Two.
In a post game interview on ITV, Graham Stack praised the lads for a job well done and hoped for a home tie in the next round. Sadly it couldn’t have been a much tougher draw, with Barnet facing Preston North End at Deepdale.
On paper you would always fancy a side side riding high in League One to beat a team from the Skrill Premier, but in the FA Cup there is always room for an upset or two. Remember the Bees going to Fratton Park and getting a result a few seasons back in the League Cup?
But this weekend Barnet’s attention will be firmly on picking up 3 points against Kidderminster, a side hot on the heals of Conference leaders Cambridge.
A win and with results going our way we could be back in the play off places. Harriers are obviously one of the stronger teams in the division and it is really important that Barnet get good results against other teams in and around the top 5.
With 3 clean sheets from 4 games and Barnet looking increasingly threatening offensively, the Bees should go into Saturday’s game with every confidence.
An important game this one and with the club having a fantastic "Friend for Free" offer for members this Saturday, why not bring a mate along and get down to The Hive for the big game?
