Both sides had chances to open the scoring in the first half. Jess Trimnell had the Bees’ first shot on target blocked, whilst Cherie Rowlands was forced into a good save by Spurs’ Bianca Baptiste.
Cheryl Williams’ long range effort after 24 minutes was comfortably saved, whilst Rowlands again saved from Martin after she capitalised on Gemma Rudman’s slip.
After a goal less first half, Barnet finally took the lead after 67 minutes. Jenny Kikomeko showed great composure in controlling Cheryl Williams’ deep cross and firing the ball into the Tottenham net from 12 yards. It was the young forward’s third goal of the campaign.
The Bees doubled their advantage four minutes later when Vicky Boardman’s deft near post header from Williams cross looped over goalkeeper Jo Ayre and into the Tottenham goal. It was also Boardman’s third goal of the season.
Tottenham Substitute Derri O’Halloran reduced the arrears for her side with a well taken goal with five minutes remaining. Vicky Boardman had a great chance to restore Barnet’s two goal advantage almost immediately but her effort was acrobatically tipped over the bar by the Tottenham goalkeeper.  Minutes later the referee blew the final whistle with Barnet leading by 2-1.
Barnet top the qualifying group with a maximum six points from their two matches so far. Their remaining fixtures are against West Ham United (away on 14 October) and Watford (at home on 25 November). The top two teams in the group will qualify for the last sixteen of the competition.
