The Bees failed to really get going in the opening 45 minutes and struggled to create chances in a cagey affair at The Hive. 

However second-half strikes from Ephron Mason-Clark and Wes Fonguck secured the points for Currie’s side as they made it three league wins in a row. 

Despite the victory, the boss felt that his side are capable of much more than they produced in their performance against the Shots. 

“We didn’t play well enough in the first half, we moved the ball too slow and there wasn’t enough movement upfront. It took us 29 minutes to register our first shot and for a home team, we need to come out of the blocks in the second half. 

“The positives are two very good goals and a clean sheet, in a much better performance in the second half, however a sign of a good side is a team that wins when it hasn’t played particularly well”

Currie opted to bring on new signing Alfie Pavey at half time and he felt that our new number nine can be please with his Barnet debut. 

“He showed straight away what he can do, a powerful header and he was a real presence up there. He hasn’t trained with us yet, so I decided to start him from the bench.”

“He will get better and better the more he settles in, he did well when he came on. I do expect he will do more once he settles, but he can go home happy with his performance” 

Mason-Clark scored the opener as he ran through and superbly struck into the top corner to give the Bees the all-important lead. 

Currie felt that his winger put in a good performance and feels he can be influential to the Bees going forward into the upcoming matches. 

“He is an excellent player, with a really big future ahead of him. He is having to deal with being seen as a huge threat from the opposition teams, so it is up to him to find the tools on how to impact the game.

“I have heard many say ‘stop Mason-Clark and you’ll stop Barnet’ and he is a marked man. Goals like tonight will help him, he is a great boy and he will get better and better”

Currie also hailed the impact of Fonguck after the midfielder scored a quality curling strike to double the advantage for his side. 

Despite missing some chances in the first half, the boss felt that the Bee Army are set to see plenty more goals from the number 18. 

“It was a brilliant goal, I know Wes has got that in him! He had a chance Saturday where he know he could have done better, plus a couple of stabs at goal in the first half that he would expect to score. I know he’s capable of it, I see it day in day out in the training. 

“When he did get his chance in the second half, I was right behind it, it was a wonderful finish!”
