Dan Sparkes hopes to build on Stockport draw

On the performance and the result

I thought we started the game very well and obviously we got the goal, it was a great penalty from Sim as usual. We were moving the ball very well, we had some good chances to effectively put the game to bed early on. We have let them back in the game from a sloppy goal from us right on half time.

Then in the second half, they pegged us back without causing us problems, obviously, they hit the post from a set-piece. In the end, we will take a point, we have had a look at the other results and I think everyone lost around us. It is in our hands as normal and in the next game on Tuesday we will be going for the win.

On the fast starts in recent matches

It is something we have talked about with the gaffer and individually, we have started well in the last couple of games. Again today we started really well, maybe we got a bit complacent and a bit comfortable on the ball, we didn’t move it as quick as we were. We had chances to go two or three-nil up, unfortunately, it didn’t happen and they get the goal before half time which killed us a bit.

We regrouped at half time and we haven’t lost the game, there are positives and negatives but we move on to Tuesday and hopefully, we can get the win.

On the mentality amongst the squad and the playoff hunt

If you look at the table, we have four games in hand and we are four points off it (play-off places) we’re in a great position. We want to win every game, a draw feels like a loss and the lads are gutted in there. We go out to every game to win, not to get tactical points or anything like that, we want to win every game.

When we don’t, I think you can see the disappointment. But there are positives and we are going to take them into Tuesday and hopefully get three points.

On his week back being in the starting XI

Leggy! I am obviously naturally a winger, but wing-back is fine I can definitely do that job. It’s a lot of hard work, but that is standard, obviously, we all work hard for each other. Personally, on Tuesday I was on the ball a lot and got dangerous balls in for Macca (McCallum), we now have a different source up there.

Tuesday was a very good game for myself, today was a lot of hard work and battling as such. Getting on the ball was difficult today, but when I did I tried to get balls in the box. I am just happy to be in the team wherever I play, hopefully I have done enough to play again on Tuesday.

On the week ahead

Every game is big, we just look at the next game as always and we want to win it. As I have said we don’t go into any game looking for a draw, we want to win every game that’s our mentality. We are winners in there and we want to win. It’s a big game, but we look to Tuesday and then after that, we will look to Saturday.

On the fans

It’s great support, we do get very good support away from home. It was a big crowd today and we could hear them, they have travelled in their numbers, so hats off to them and we are very grateful.
