Darren Currie: “We’re still in a positive frame of mind”

The Bees fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Dover Athletic on Tuesday night courtesy of a late Inih Effiong goal, but the boss claims the feeling is still positive within the camp.

“The mood has been good. We dissect every game that we play in, whether it is a win, draw or a defeat.

“We’ve had team meetings to discuss in finer detail what went on on Tuesday night.

“The general feeling is that we can play better but I think we played well enough to warrant something out of the game.

“It’s obviously extremely disappointing to concede later and you’ve got no time left in the game to try and recover the situation.

“We’ve discussed it, the mood has been good, we’re still in a positive frame of mind and we look forward to correcting it all against Chesterfield.”

The Bees were dealt another blow on Tuesday when full-back David Tutonda was forced off with an injury and Currie gave an update on his condition.

“He won’t be available for a few weeks. He’s got a tear in his hamstring which is really disappointing for him.

“Obviously, he started the season really well and he’s a big player for us but unfortunately, we won’t have David around us tomorrow.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, Currie is expecting Chesterfield to provide a tough test as they look to clinch their first win of the season.

“They’re all going to be tough games. I only ever feel I can judge situations after the game.

“I know they’re going to want to get their season started as I know they haven’t started how they wanted to.”

Currie will also come up against his former Chesterfield manager John Sheridan in the dug-out tomorrow and the Barnet boss was full of praise for his opposite number.

“I played under John Sheridan, he’s a terrific guy and a very good manager so I expect him to charge his team up and they’ll be ready to get their season underway.

“It’s our job to nullify whatever they bring and play the way we can with more energy, more end product, more quality and more ruthlessness.”
