Experience will be key for Bees, says Rossi

Winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce and defender Michael Nelson have both agreed new contracts in recent weeks as the Bees begin preparations for the new season.

Head coach Eames told barnetfc.com: “It’s been a busy few weeks with Jamal and Michael extending. Both have excellent qualities as players and vast experience as professionals but, more importantly, are excellent people.

“It’s important to breed a winning mentality, Jamal and Michael offer that and we are in advanced processes of adding to the squad in areas we need to strengthen.

“At this time of year it takes a little bit of time, but it’s important we work efficiently and smart to complete these. It’s always an exciting time as a supporter and we will keep everyone updated along the way.”

With the EFL fixtures for 2017-18 due to be published in just two weeks’ time, the Bees boss is anticipating another testing campaign.

Two former Premier League sides – Coventry City and Swindon Town – will be competing in League Two next season, while FA Cup giantkillers Lincoln City and EFL debutants Forest Green Rovers move up to the fourth tier.

Eames added: “There are some great clubs that have come down and some excellent teams that have come up.

“But we also believe we are an excellent club, with good players, passionate fans and a fantastic infrastructure and top class facilities that the chairman has produced so it’s going to be an exciting season ahead.

“We saw teams start last year like a house on fire and then dip. It’ll be about what we do, how hard we work in pre-season and the way we’re going to play, game management and being physically and mentally prepared, being winners and being consistent.

“That’s the mentality we want at this club all week and then for 90 minutes on a Saturday.”
