Henry Newman: “We were outstanding throughout”

Henry Newman labelled Barnet’s 1-0 win over EFL League Two leaders Plymouth Argyle as “one of the best The Hive has seen”.
Mauro Vilhete bagged the winner after just 15 minutes, heading home from Nana Kyei’s corner to give the Bees their second win of the season over the Pilgrims.
Victory lifts Rossi Eames and Newman’s side up to 9th in League Two, just a couple of points shy of the play-off places.
“I’ve got to be honest,” Newman said afterwards. “I would be really really surprised if people weren’t putting that down as one of the best performances The Hive has seen.
“Some of the work we did in possession was an absolute delight to watch.
“How the boys have taken on board information in such a short space of time after Luton Town, then gone and done that, and do the work they did out of possession as well, was absolutely outstanding.
“I can only think of one clear-cut chance Plymouth had. We had multiple chances and I thought we were outstanding throughout.”
And Newman was impressed with the displays of the three players handed their debuts: Simeon Akinola and Ricardo Santos from the start and Dan Sweeney off the substitutes’ bench.
“They looked like they’d been at the club for two years in terms of the way they performed,” he said.
“We sat down with the new boys and did a couple of presentations about what was expected of them in and out of possession.
“The amount they were able to take on board from the information delivered to them today and in training yesterday should stand them in very good stead for their careers at this football club.”
