Martin Allen: “We didn’t play as badly as 3-0 suggests”

Martin Allen was adamant Barnet’s 3-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town in the Emirates FA Cup first round did not do the Bees’ performance justice.

Barnet penned the EFL League One side in with a number of dangerous set pieces and long throws, coming close to taking the lead on a handful of occasions at Greenhous Meadow.
However, the ball did not fall for the Bees and the Shrews went ahead after 29 minutes when Mat Sadler turned home from close range after a free-kick hit the bar.
The Bees hardly had time to recover and, four minutes later, the Salopians doubled up when AJ Leitch-Smith guided a cute header beyond Jamie Stephens.
Barnet continued their stern examination of the Shrews but the home side bagged a third after the break, Jack Grimmer firing home from outside the penalty area.
Speaking afterwards, Allen said: "We didn’t play as badly as 3-0 would suggest. At one point they had three shots and scored three goals.
"We dominated the game and more often played in their third of the field.
"We lacked that quality in the final third to open them up. It was disappointing."
