Team News:

Richard Brindley is a doubt (knee) after limping off injured on Saturday, as is Ruben Bover (hamstring). Harry Taylor (metatarsal) and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (knee) are out.  Elliott Johnson (knee) and Dave Tarpey (knee) are long-term absentees.

Last Time We Met:

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Brunton Park back in September 2017.

Barnet started strongly and took a deserved lead seven minutes in. Craig Ross’ long ball was headed on by Shaq Coulthirst and sent Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro racing through on goal. His first effort struck the post but he tapped home the rebound.

As we entered the final 15 minutes, Carlisle stepped up their performance and started pressurising the Barnet goal, Bennett heading over the bar.

Shaun Miller’s downward header minutes later caused havoc in the Barnet area but the Bees managed to scramble clear.

With 5 minutes to go, Carlisle drew level through a spectacular bicycle kick from Shaun Miller which looped over Craig Ross.

In stoppage time, Akinde raced through on goal and had an effort blocked, but picked up an injury in the process, ruling him out until November.

Manager:

Keith Curle was confirmed as the manager of Carlisle United on September 19, 2014.

Before Carlisle, Curle returned to management with Notts County after assisting Neil Warnock with great success at both Crystal Palace and QPR as First Team Coach.

Curle had managerial spells at Mansfield Town, Chester City and Torquay United before joining up with Warnock.

Their most notable feat was guiding QPR to the Barclays Premier League as champions of the Championship in 2010/11.

At Notts County he enjoyed a successful start, winning his first four games in charge. The Magpies narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs in 2011/12, by goal difference, as they finished 7th in League One. Keith remained with the club until February 2013, before taking over at Carlisle in September 2014

Curle, a former England international, enjoyed an illustrious playing career, with spells at Wimbledon, Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers amongst others.

Dangerman:

Wide man Jamie Devitt signedon a two-year deal in June 2016 which keeps him at Brunton Park until at least the summer of 2018. In 34 appearances this season, he has scored 7 goals with 1 assist.

Dublin-born Devitt started his career at newly promoted Premier League side Hull and was voted their Young Player of the Year for the 2007/08 season. In 2011 Devitt was capped by the Republic of Ireland U21 side. He went on to have seven spells on loan before signing for Chesterfield in the summer of 2013. His time with the Spireites resulted in eight appearances before he joined Morecambe, initially on loan. Jim Bentley made the move permanent in the summer of 2014 and Devitt has since made 98 appearances for the Shrimps, scoring 12 goals.

Last Time Out:

Carlisle United were 2-0 winners over Chesterfield at the weekend. Kelvin Etuhu gave Carlisle a first-half lead and, after Chesterfield’s Louis Reed had seen a goal disallowed, John O’Sullivan sealed it for Carlisle with a late strike.

Connections:

Jamal Campbell-Ryce departed The Hive London for Brunton Park on the final day of the January Transfer Window. He scored 5 goals in 58 games for the Bees, registering 9 assists in 18 months with the club. He arrived at Barnet following a free transfer following release from Sheffield United. To date, the winger has made two appearances for Carlisle.
