Match Preview: Dagenham and Redbridge (H)

FIXTURE DETAILS:

Barnet FC vs Dagenham & Redbridge FC

Saturday 1st May 2021, 15:00 KO

The Hive London

Vanarama National League

THE DAGGERS

League Position: 14th (P35 W13 D7 L15)

Last Result: King’s Lynn Town 0-3 Dagenham & Redbridge (Saturday 24th April 2021)

Manager: Daryl McMahon

Club Captain: Kenny Clark

Our visitors come into the game in red hot form, after winning their last three on the bounce. But despite this, the main problem for the Daggers has been consistency, emphasised by the three games prior all ending in defeat. Nevertheless, it has been a season of growth at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, with Daryl McMahon overseeing what will only be his first full season in charge, as the Daggers look certain to better their finish in the league from last season.

Angelo Balanta will be one man to look out for on Saturday from the visitors. The Columbian attacking midfielder is the Daggers current top goalscorer this season with three of his nine goals in fact coming in the last three games.

A few former Bees may well be taking to the Hive pitch as well on Saturday with a number currently playing for the Daggers including Elliot Johnson, Paul McCallum and Callum Reynolds.

THE BEES

Simon Bassey’s unbeaten start since coming in as First Team Coach came to an end on Tuesday night, but only after a narrow defeat away to high flyers Sutton United. The game was a difficult one for the Bees, but they threw every effort into trying to get a result, just falling short. However, the match itself became most difficult as the first half came to a close, when Aymen Azaze was stretched off with fractures to the side of his face and cheekbone, being replaced by 16-year-old scholar James Callan for his debut.

Prior to Tuesday, Bassey had two wins and two draws to his name and the players will not let this loss affect them too much, as they continue to build momentum after a difficult season, with some real top class individual performances in recent weeks. One of those players has been Ephron Mason-Clark who since Bassey came in, has scored twice and been a real threat in the Bees attack and will be hoping to add to his goal tally in the final eight games of the season.

LAST TIME WE MET:

The Bees got their first win of this season at Victoria Road, coming from behind, to secure a 2-1 win over the Daggers, thanks to goals from JJ Hooper and Eliot Richards.
