FIXTURE DETAILS:

Torquay United vs Barnet FC

Saturday 22nd May, 15:00

Plainmoor (Limited attendance)

Vanarama National League

THE GULLS

League Postion: 2nd (P40, W23, D9, L8)

Last Fixture: Stockport County 2-2 Torquay United – Sunday 16th May

Manager: Gary Johnson

Top Scorer: Asa Hall

As we head into the penultimate weekend of the season, the Gulls still have a chance at winning the league but know they must beat the Bees to take it to the final weekend. They’ll be roared on by home support too, who will be expectant of a big performance on their return to Plainmoor for the first time in months, it’ll be the Bees job to go and spoil the party, in turn doing a huge favour to Sutton United who we face on the final day. It’s been an impressive campaign for Gary Johnson’s men, they head into the game on a run of form where they are unbeaten in their last 11 outings, since tasting defeat at the hands of Dagenham and Redbridge.

If the Gulls are going to miss out on the title, then they’ll want to continue their fine form going into the play-offs. They’ll be hoping they can secure the points at Plainmoor and that Hartlepool United can do them a massive favour down at Sutton on Sunday, to set up a dramatic final day of action in The National League.

THE BEES:

The Bees have performed well away from home of late but haven’t had the result to match in their recent away fixtures. They dominated large spells of both the Solihull Moors and Eastleigh fixtures, but couldn’t find the cutting edge at the crucial moments to get themselves into the games in terms of the scoreline. However, the effort has been there for all to see and Simon Bassey will be demanding more of the same when they travel to the second-placed side in the division. The Bees will want to frustrate the Gulls faithful and remain in the match for large spells, ultimately they will have to be ruthless in attack if they are going to upset the odds in Devon.
