MATCH REPORT: Barnet 0 – 1 Newport County

Barnet exited the FA Cup at the 2nd Round stage, after Newport County ran out 1-0 winners at The Hive.
County took the lead mid-way through the second half when a wind-assisted Scott Boden shot found its way into the Bees’ net.
Martin Allen’s side fought hard to get back into the match, but struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities throughout the game.
Newport had the afternoon’s opening chance, when Lenell John-Lewis flashed a shot wide of the left post from a narrow angle after six minutes.
Jamie Stephens got down to stop an Alex Rodman effort on 18 minutes, as the visitors had the better of the game’s early exchanges.
Rodman again tested Stephens with just over half an hour played – the Bees custodian blocking the forward’s shot from the right side of the box.
John-Lewis then fired high over the bar with a minute to go until the break.
Barnet’s first clear chance of the match came soon after the restart, when substitute Kevin Lisbie flicked the ball into the path of John Akinde – his shot from a tight angle on the left was blocked by Joe Day.
Medy Elito had an effort saved on 52 minutes, before the Bees responded with an Andy Yiadom snap-shot two minutes later.
The Exiles found themselves a goal up on the hour mark – Boden’s high effort looping around Stephens and into the back of the net.
Lisbie then connected with a dangerous Hakeem Odoffin cross, but put the ball over from inside the box.
Stephens stretched low to his left to stop John-Lewis’ drive with 75 minutes played.
The Bees pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the match, but were unable to make a breakthrough.
Barnet travel to Yeovil Town’s Huish Park next Saturday.
