Preview: Ebbsfleet United (A)

Darren Currie’s side travel to the Kuflink Stadium looking to bounce straight back from the disappointment of Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to FC Halifax Town.

The opposition

The Fleet currently sit at the foot of the table after a difficult start to the season, there only win of the season coming away at Boreham Wood as they ran out 2-1 victors. They are yet to win on home turf and will be looking to give The Fleet fans something to cheer about when the Bees visit this evening.

In their last match, the Reds suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Barrow as the visitors were in rampant mood. Garry Hill’s side will be in a similar position to Currie’s side in the fact they want to right the wrongs of their previous fixture.

Despite the host’s precarious league position, the Bees will have to be at their best if they are to return to The Hive with maximum points.

The Gaffer: Garry Hill

Hill took over in November 2018 and has since guided them to an 8th place finish in the National League last season.

The Fleet boss came in with a wealth of experience having previously managed at Woking, where he spent six years guiding them into the National League by winning the conference south in the 2011-12 season. Hill was a firm fans favourite at Woking and will be looking to turn around the difficult start to the season his current employers have had.

Hill has managed nearly 1000 games in football and certainly is an experienced manager at non-league level, his experience will be invaluable to The Fleet if they are going to move up the Vanarama National League table.

Last time out:

The Bees last trip to Ebbsfleet was one to forget as well fell to a 1-0 defeat, as Danny Kedwell netted the only goal for the Fleet. This is the first meeting between the two sides since December 2018 and Currie will be looking to reward the travelling army with three points.

Connections

John Akinde: The striker made 23 appearances for our hosts scoring eight goals in his time at Stonebridge Road back in the 2007-8 season. Currie’s pre-match thoughts

“We are looking to react from Saturday’s disappointment, I think we opted to play into Alfie (Pavey) more than we probably needed to, but that understanding between the players will come”

“We have spoken about our work ethic and our decision making on the ball, I am very big on those two areas. It wasn’t good enough the other day, so we must put it right tonight”

“Their position in the league makes the game equally as difficult, because they are fighting for their lives. They’ll be looking to kick start their season, so we have to match their effort and commitment, plus we need to sprinkle that with the quality we have within the squad”

“Confidence is high, the players have started the season well, but what we have to is react from a bad day, put it right and rebuild from there”
