Reckless Guide to Preston North End

THE THE RECKLESS GUIDE TO

PRESTON NORTH END
FA Cup with Budweiser 1st Round

Saturday 9th November 2013

Kick Off 3.00 pm

Stadium: Deepdale, Sir Tom Finney Way, Preston, PR1 6RU

Telephone: 0844 856 1964

Club Colours: Black and White

Nickname: The Lilywhites

Official Website:www.pnefc.net

Key Personnel:
Manager at Deepdale is Simon Grayson who had playing experience at full back for Leicester City, Blackpool, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers. He managed at Blackpool, Leeds and Huddersfield before taking the reins at PNE in February 2013.

Brief Directions by Road:
Leave the M6 at Junction 31 and follow signs Left for Preston. Go up a very steep hill and down the other side to a mini roundabout . The Hesketh Arms – worth a stop if you have time – at this junction is the clue. Turn right here into Blackpool Road A5085. Go through three sets of traffic and the stadium will be visible on the left.

Car Parking: Parking in the streets surrounding the ground is fairly unrestricted however parking for around £3.00 is available at Moorfields Special School or Preston Fire Station. Both are a five minute walk to the ground.

Directions by Train:
Preston Station is a good 25 minute walk away from the stadium but plenty of pubs and places to eat are located on the way. See below.

Supporters Coaches:
Barnet Football Club will be running a coach to every away first team game this season. The 2013/14 Travel Club is now open for fans to join by a monthly fee system or one off individual booking. Monthly Travel Club Memberships cost £38 for Adults, £30 for Concessions & Juniors and just £20 for Under-10s.

Bees Travel Club Members can travel to this game for FREE on the coach leaving from the Hive at 7.45am. Non Club members will be charged £25.00 for the trip. Call 020 8381 3800 for more details.

Eating and Drinking Locally: From the station I have been recommended the Academy and the Old Black Bull as reliable hostelries. Close to the ground Sumners Bar is the best bet for a pint and a decent pie. Pies of various flavours and fillings are to be found in most places in this part of the world, they seem to be a staple dietary offering, and long may it continue! There is a wide range of food available inside the ground all first class according to my spies but a special mention for the Meat and Potato Pie and the Potato and Butter Pies are warranted! They sell out every week so they must be good.

Ground Description: All seated 24,000, four separate stands all with perfect sight lines. Gone are the days of the magnificent 1906 built West Stand and the huge iconic Kop End Terrace – ho hum.

Away fans are housed in the new Bill Shankly Kop Stand at one end of the pitch. Normally the allocation for away fans is  half of this stand around 3,000. The rake of seating is fairly steep and the facilities under the concourses are excellent with bars and live TV coverage available during the game.

Admission Prices:
The prices for this game are a very attractive £10.00 for adults with Under 16s just £1.00. Buy on the day or contact The Hive on the above number to purchase in advance with PNE advising that tickets are purchased in advance.

Previous Meetings and Memories:
January 1965, and a 3rd Round FA Cup tie at Underhill in front of over 10,000! There is footage of this game on You Tube but as many times you watch it we still loose 3-2 and poor Terry Casey still heads in an own goal. In Division 3 during the 1990’s Barnet won three out of the four games played and the legend that is Paul Wilson scored in both 1-0 wins in 1996.
