The Bees made two changes from the side that beat Eastleigh at the end of last month. Wes Fonguck started for the first time since re-signing for the club and he was joined by Loic Hernandez who both replaced Dan Sparkes and Harry Taylor respectively.

The first chance of the game fell Maidenhead’s way on four minutes when James Akintunde twisted and turned before drilling low into Scott Loach’s gloves.

Up the other end, Fonguck found Ephron Mason-Clark who let rip from distance, but his effort deflected high and wide.

Fonguck was in the thick of it again on 20 minutes when he chipped in a fantastic ball towards Simeon Akinola at the back-post, but his header was saved.

With seven minutes of the half remaining, Mason-Clark found Fonguck in the box before the Bees’ returning number 18 poked the ball wide via a deflection.

Moments later, Charlee Adams tested Taye Ashby-Hammond in the Maidenhead net, striking first time on the edge of the box but his low effort was well saved.

The Bees continued to pose an attacking threat in the latter stages of the half as the Magpies stood strong to maintain their clean sheet.

The second half began just how the first ended as the hosts continued to pose danger going forward and it nearly paid off on the hour mark when Cheye Alexander’s shot flew over.

Fonguck nearly marked his return with a goal as he was played through before shooting just wide of the upright.

The Bees did finally have their noses in front though after Adams charged forward before his initial shot was saved, falling to the feet of Walker who blasted home on 66 minutes.

James Akintunde had an equaliser in his sight when he tried his luck from distance, curling the ball around Loach via a deflection but his shot fell narrowly wide.

Ryan Upward went close as well soon after as his cross from the right nearly floated into the top corner but Barnet’s number one was on hand to palm away the danger.

In stoppage time, substitute Jack Barham, who replaced Walker just minutes before, nearly slotted home the second but his effort from close range fizzed wide.

The miss didn’t prove costly as the Bees held on to clinch maximum points and end the Magpies’ unbeaten run on the road this season.
