Report | Barnet FC 0-0 Coventry City

Coventry had the first real chance of the game, a floated free-kick by Jodi Jones met the head Max Biamou who, despite having plenty of space, headed wide.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro’s low cross across the box just needed a final touch but was just ahead of Andre Blackman.

Akpa Akpro then created another chance, sending through Mauro Vilhete in the 9th minute, but Coventry managed to clear their lines. Jack Taylor shoots from the rebound but was just wide of the post.

Vilhete then turned provider, a free-kick put into the area was headed back across the face of goal by Charlie Clough, but Jack Taylor couldn’t get a clean touch on the ball.

In the 33rd minute, Devon Kelly-Evans’ shot was comfortable blocked before Jodi Jones’ speculative effort curled over the bar.

A few half-chances throughout the half, but nothing too clear-cut gave both managers a lot to think of at half-time.

Coventry came out in the second half much stronger, Jones played a lovely ball in, but evaded everyone.

Marc McNulty was played through in the 61st minute, but a fantastic block Clough stopped a potential goal. Jones had another chance but blazed his effort over the bar.

A double change by Rossi Eames in the 67th minute, bringing on Simeon Akinola and Ephron Mason-Clark was Barnet’s attempt at freshening up the game.

Vilhete played a corner in in the 73rd minute and found the head of Clough, but he couldn’t make a sweet connection before The Sky Blues managed to clear their lines.

Jack Grimmer produced a lovely solo run, dodging tackle right and left, but his effort could only find the hands of a comfortable Craig Ross.

Shomotun had only been on the pitch for a minute when he had the chance to take the lead, but his volley was straight at keeper Lee Burge.

A break in play in the 80th minute, due to an Akinola head injury, allowed both managers a chance to talk tactics with their teams and try to find that killer goal to snatch the game.

Biamou made a chance out of nothing, taking a touch before his half-volley was dragged wide of Ross’ right-hand post, the first real opportunity of the half.

Jones had yet another effort, this time blocked by The Bees back line and out for a corner, taken by Jordan Shipley, but couldn’t find a man in blue.

Liam Kelly, however, came closest to scoring in the 87th minute, a sweet strike looked destined for the top left-hand corner, only for a diving Ross to parry it away.

From the resulting corner, the initial header was saved by Ross, but in the tangled legs a shot hit the post and was cleared off the line by Vilhete.

With three minutes of additional time to play, neither team brave enough to plie men forward, so a draw and a point a piece was all that came of an exciting game.
