Report | Barnet FC 1-0 Harrogate Town

Dave Tarpey bagged the only goal of the game on the half-hour mark as Darren Currie’s men came away with maximum points.

Both teams named an unchanged side from their last respective fixture where the Bees drew 0-0 with Hartlepool United on Saturday whilst Town beat Maidenhead United 1-0.

Within the opening minutes, Elliott Johnson broke forward, down the left-hand side before playing a one-two with Wes Fonguck who fired his cross into full-back’s feet who slashed his shot wide of the Harrogate goal.

Soon after, Ephron Mason-Clark was brought down 25 yards out, Tarpey stepped up and narrowly misses the crossbar. One minute later, Harrogate’s own number seven George Thomson took a free-kick from a similar distance which was easily saved by Cousins.

22 minutes in, Barnet won a corner which was floated in by Tarpey who found Mason-Clark’s head, forcing the keeper to produce an unorthodox save with is feet.

Barnet’s goal stemmed from Shaq Coulthirst picking the ball up in midfield and playing a nice through-ball over the top to Mason-Clark. He then found Tarpey in the box who produced a quality, first time finish past the Harrogate keeper into the top corner.

Both sides had their fair share of chances, but Barnet were the ones with the upper hand going into half-time.

Town produced the first real goal threat of the second half after Warren Burrell latched onto a dipping free-kick but his header could only find the gloves of Cousins.

Up the other end and the Bees came close to extending their lead when Fonguck found space on the edge of the box before unleashing a curling effort which deflected out of danger.

Just past the hour mark, Barnet had another chance to rustle the net again when Coulthirst headed a cross from the right just wide of the post.

Despite late pressure from the visitors, Currie’s side managed to hold on to clinch crucial points.

The Bees are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Salford City.
